Pregnancy Symptoms
Do you think you might be pregnant? You may be experiencing some of the following symptoms:
- Late or missed period
- Nausea and sickness
- Swelling or tender breasts
- Mood swings
- Needing the toilet more frequently
If you have any of these you should do a pregnancy test.
Taking the Test
SMPC and PAS offer free pregnancy testing. You will need to provide a sample of wee, which will be tested and you will be given the result straight away.
You can also visit your GP or local Family Planning service for a pregnancy test. You can buy a home pregnancy testing kit from any pharmacy.
The Result
Negative: If your test result is negative you are not pregnant
Positive: If your test result is positive, you are pregnant and you may need to consider the options available to you
You can calculate how many weeks you have been pregnant by using our ‘pregnancy calculator’.
Your Options
If you are pregnant and are unsure of what to do, some options include:
- Abortion
- Adoption
- Keeping the baby
Counselling:
Finding out you are pregnant can be a stressful and confusing time. If you feel like you need extra support or would like to have a chat about your situation with someone in confidence, we can arrange for a counsellor to speak with you.
