Causes and Symptoms
Scabies are caused by close body contact and are not necessarily sexually transmitted. They can be found on the genital area, hands, elbows, knees, breasts and many other areas of the body.
Scabies are microscopic mites that bury themselves under the skin causing the skin to become very itchy.
Symptoms include:
- Itching
- Red bumps on the skin
- Inflamed, broken skin from scratching
- In some cases the skin can become scaly
Treatment
Scabies are treated through a specialist lotion.
It is important to remember to wash all bedding and towels that the infected person has been in contact with to avoid re-infection.
