Pubic Lice

Causes and Symptoms
Pubic Lice can be passed through vaginal, anal and oral sexual intercourse and close genital contact.

They can, however, also be passed through close contact and sharing of infected persons’ towels or bedding etc.

Pubic lice are also commonly referred to as ‘crabs’ due to the appearance of the lice.

Symptoms include:

  • Genital area becoming itchy
  • The area may become inflamed from scratching and cause a rash
  • Tiny specks of blood on the skin surface
  • Brown eggs on pubic and other body hair
  • Powdery black droppings in your knickers/pants

Both the lice and eggs can be visible to the naked eye.

Treatment
Using a specialised solution.

If left untreated the lice can spread. Occasionally lice can be found in other areas of the body such as, eyebrows, armpit hair, leg hair and forearm hair.
