There may be any
number of reasons why you have decided to consider a vasectomy
reversal. At South Manchester Private Clinic in Stockport
we have a friendly, experienced and
highly professional team to help you arrive at the right decision.
You are naturally
encouraged to attend the initial consultation with your partner
if possible. At this appointment the consultation and assessment doctor will
explain the nature and details of the operation and answer any
questions you may have. In particular the doctor will try to
ensure that you are making the correct decision, bearing in
mind your personal circumstances. However, should the operation
prove to be unsuccessful or you decide not to proceed other
options can be discussed at this point.
It is very difficult
to provide accurate information about the success rate of vasectomy
reversal. One thing is certain, that success will be highest
in those whose operations are performed within two to three
years of their original vasectomy. However, significant success
rates have been obtained in those where the interval between
the vasectomy and the operation has been much longer. The consultation and assessment
doctor and or the surgeon will of course be happy to expand
on this information as it applies to you.
If you decide to
go ahead an appointment for the operation can be arranged without
delay. The operation is performed under general anaesthetic,
normally as a day care case. There will be some post-operative
swelling and bruising, but healing is rapid and you should feel
much better after two or three days. Nonetheless, it should
be stressed that you must at all costs avoid any strenuous activity
(including driving) for at least ten days after the operation
and it is also advisable to allow two or three weeks off work.
Semen tests are arranged
at around twelve and sixteen weeks after the operation when we will make an
appointment for you to see the consultation and assessment doctor to discuss
the results.
Post-operative care
is very important and if at any time you are concerned about
the progress of your recovery, or you have any questions, expert
advice and help is always available from the clinic - a telephone
call away, Tel: 0161 487 2660
The original vasectomy
operation involved cutting the vas deferens, the tube
which carried sperm from the testes. The reversal operation
requires that the cut ends of the tubes be rejoined by delicate,
microscopic stitching. Naturally this procedure requires the
skill and experience of a specialist surgeon. At South
Manchester Private Clinic in Stockport we can confidently assure you that
we will provide this expertise.
The initial consultation costs 100 pounds and the
cost of the treatment is 2600 pounds.
